On Wednesday, Governor Healey released her FY26 budget. Overall, the budget comes in at $62 billion which represents a 7.4% increase in overall spending over last year’s budget. The budget recommends $125 million for public housing programs, a 4% increase over FY2025. Operating subsidy is funded at $115.5 million (an increase of $2.5 million) and the Resident Services Coordinators Program is funded at $7.5 million (an increase of $1 million). MRVP is funded at $253.3 million, which represents a $34.3 million funding increase and AHVP is funded at $19.5 million. However, the funding for both of these programs is only enough to maintain the current payment standard, and will result in a freeze in new vouchers being issued through the CHAMP system. This marks only the first step in a long journey. We have much advocacy to be done with both Governor Healey’s administration and the legislature. As a reminder, our 2025 Legislative Day is Wednesday, April 2, at the State House; keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks. |
