Understanding and implementing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is essential for all housing providers. This session offers a practical refresher on the core VAWA requirements for Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), including notification and transfer provisions first outlined in the 2013 reauthorization and clarified by HUD's 2016 Final Rule and 2017 PIH Notice. We'll cover important updates, including expanded definitions under VAWA 2022 and the latest HUD forms and notices released in early 2025. Special attention will also be given to Massachusetts-specific protections under Chapter 402 of the Acts of 2012 (M.G.L. c. 186, §§23–29) and the related guidance issued by EOHLC in 2020.
